Looking at a topo map, it seems its mostly the very wealthy who will be most affected: Eastern US, Kuwait, Western Europe - IF significant sea level changes occur. If you can predict weather, you are well on your way to a Nobel Prize. Hunger is a certainty. The ill effects of the other things in our air (besides CO2, without which this is a lifeless rock) are certainties. Why chase bogeymen? I'm not saying that it shouldn't be addressed: just that it should be, hmm maybe 12th on the list.

Follow one of the following links to send a letter to the Environmental Assessment Office regarding the Plutonic project in Bute Inlet.

The EAO accepts letters only until February 18. Letters can be very short (one sentence if that's all the time you have). Make sure that you indicate your opposition to the project in the first sentence.

Dear Honourable Minister George Abbott,
We are very concerned that Bill C-51, in its third reading, will deeply and regrettably diminish our right as individuals to choose how we maintain our health and treat disease. Please do not allow this shameful Bill to gain anymore momentum than it already has. It was created by a devious few who believed they would control the world if they controlled all that we consume. They were and are the worst kind of criminals. They are soulless and without conscious. If this country allows this bill to pass, it is saying to the world that Canada has folded, and has no conscious in this time when consciousness means everything. We have a right to choose and we do not wish to lose it. Prove you are a man with a soul, and worthy of your position. Don’t allow this to happen to Canadians. It is yet another crime against humanity gaining in momentum and threatening the future of my Grandchildren, and your children too, Mr. Abbott. If you truly wish to protect this young Nation, kill Bill C-51. And do it soon!
Sincerely,
Mr. & Mrs. Holt

I am outraged about what bill C51 proposes.
I have read the many internet sites that oppose this bill. Such sites suggest the possible outcome of those who sell, or give another person vitamin supplements. This in particular caused me to become very concerned and wonder who our government is working for? It certainly does not look like they are working for the Canadian citizens. Why is there no media coverage on this? I would surmise that the reason their would be no press is because it would cause even the most non vocal person to stand up and say "we are not going to take this! "
Should this bill be passed it would be an infringement of our rights and freedoms.
Is the government working for we the people or is the government working for the big Pharmaceutical companies?
It was the natural health industry that allowed me to get my health back as conventional medicine was not helping me one bit. My doctor at the time only wanted me to take pharmaceuticals for an ailment that they could not label as this or that...I suffered great pain for 8 straight years and the medical doctors could see nothing wrong with me and suggested that I was depressed and that was the sole reason for experiencing 24/7 pain. Indeed I became depressed after years of pain, but depression was not the cause it was a subsequent symptom. I now live pain free and am a happy, healthy, productive member of society, thanks to the supplements that I took.
How will bill C51 affect the many health food stores? I would surmise that they would have to hire a pharmacist who could fill the prescriptions for supplements. The average salary of a pharmacist is $83,900 a year. This would cause health food stores to close and result in the loss of many jobs.

This bill is so wrong on many levels. What has happened to our democratic society when such a bill can be forced upon us without the masses being informed? Again I ask, why is there no media coverage about this bill that will affect so many people?

Who killed the honeybees?

A round table of experts answer all our pressing questions about the sudden death of the nation's bees. What they have to say has a bigger sting than we ever expected.

The environment should be THE top priority of the government but it isn't the only priority. Of course we should do what we can to help those billion people that you refer to but part of helping them is for us to start living as sustainably as possible because they are going to be the most affected by our polluting actions. (eg. Rising sea levels that have been caused by us who can afford to build infrastructure to combat it while the poor nations will just watch their land be swallowed up by the sea.)

"Should reducing global warming be the top priority for government?"

You're making a big leap there between not caring about an issue and saying it shouldn't be THE top priority for the government. Every day thousands of people around the world are being slaughtered or starving to death. Over a billion live in unsanitary conditions. Climate change is important but there are more pressing issues.

OTTAWA - Today, David Suzuki will present the findings from the "If YOU were Prime Minister... tour" on Parliament Hill.

The “If YOU Were Prime Minister…” tour revealed the environmental priorities and vision of Canadians during its four-week, coast-to-coast mission.

The message that emerged from your feedback was loud and clear: you are ready for action and want clear strong national leadership on environmental issues.

Canadians showered us with more than 600 videos and 30,000 ballots and email submissions.

A team of volunteers sorted though all of this information, and we were inspired to see the bold ideas. Canadians seem to be far ahead of their elected leaders on environmental protection.

Here were the top 5 themes that emerged:

1. Build a sustainable, affordable public transportation system.
2. Introduce a carbon tax system to help meet our Kyoto commitments.
3. Entrench the right to clean water, breathable air and a safe food supply in the Constitution.
4. Identify and protect the habitat that species at risk need to recover.
5. Institute a national program to penalize polluters and reward green initiatives.

Dr. Suzuki will present the findings to the Ottawa press corps this morning, and then meet with the Honourable John Baird, Minister of the Environment; Stéphane Dion, Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition; and Jack Layton, Leader of the New Democratic Party.

To read the findings and view the video and written submissions, visit: http://www.davidsuzuki.org/tour/report/default.asp

Thank you for sharing your concern for Canada's performance on
protecting our environment.

After so many years of federal inaction, everyday Canadians say the
environment is their #1 priority, and New Democrats are listening. The
NDP has a comprehensive plan to improve our environment and fight
climate change. Our action plan includes:

- Meeting Canada's commitments under the Kyoto protocol
- Developing a national sustainability plan
- Significantly increasing the responsibility of large industries to
reduce emissions
- Legislating a mandatory fuel efficiency standard that meets or exceeds
leading North American jurisdictions
- Ending subsidies to polluting industries

For detailed information on the NDP's plan for short and long term
action, please read the following links:

I appreciate your efforts to register your views with me. I hope I can
count on your support to make Parliament work on behalf of all
Canadians. All the best.

Sincerely,
